SST PUBLICATIONS TO PUBLISH THE ENTIRE SERIES OF JOE R. LANSDALE’S HAP
AND LEONARD CRIME BOOKS AS GRAPHIC NOVELS

(SST Publications) owner, Paul Fry is absolutely delighted to announce
the signing of SST’s biggest
deal to date. SST have acquired the exclusive comic/graphic novel rights to the
entire series of best-selling and multiple award-winning author Joe R. Lansdale’s acclaimed “Hap and Leonard” crime books. The books will be
adapted and illustrated by Finnish comic artist Jussi Piironen. They will be
published as full-colour oversized hardcovers and also in oversized softcover
and digital formats.

is a huge honour for me and a massive deal for SST to have acquired the
comic/graphic novel rights to Joe Lansdale’s entire ‘Hap and
Leonard’ series. The
books have a huge fan base and are really incredible crime stories. It’s also fantastic for the series
that Jussi Piironen will adapt and illustrate the books as he’s a long-time, massive fan of Hap
and Leonard and will be perfect to adapt the books into graphic novel form. Our
number one priority is to keep the graphic novels as close to the original
books as possible. We really believe they need to stay completely
faithful to the original work, and we really don’t want to let the fans down! The first title in the series, Savage
Season is already in the works and we estimate a rough publication date of
late 2015.”
About Joe R. Lansdale: “Joe R. Lansdale is the author of over 40 novels and three hundred
short pieces, fiction and non-fiction. His work has received numerous awards
and recognitions. Among them The Edgar, nine Bram Stokers, The Herodotus, The
Grinzane Cavour Prize, and two New York Times Notable Books. His novella
Bubba Ho-Tep was filmed under the same title, as was his novel Cold
in July, and his short story “Christmas with the
Dead.”
His short story “Incident
On and Off a Mountain Road”
was part of Showtime’s Masters
of Horror series. He wrote scripts for Batman: The Animated Series,
as well as Superman: The Animated Series. He also wrote a Jonah Hex
short for DC Showcase, and the animated film Son of Batman. He is the
author of many comics. Among them the Jonah Hex comic Two Gun Mojo, the
Lone Ranger comic “It Crawls,”
Conan comic The Songs of the Dead, and
many others. Lansdale is the founder of Shen Chuan Martial Science, a member of
The Texas Institute of Letters, the Texas Literary Hall of Fame, and Writer in
Residence at Stephen F. Austin State University.”

Series faces of Hap and Leonard:
Viimeiset viikot ovat olleet erittäin kuumottavia ja viimein on kaikki nimet papereissa, ensimmäiset hahmoluonnokset (tai tässä tapauksessa pin upit) on hyväksytetty ja homma on virallista.
Olen ollut Lansdalen romaanien suuri ystävä ja ihailija aina Jalavan julkaisemasta Outoja Tarinoita- kirjasarjasta asti.
Hap ja Leonardin vauhdikkaisiin seikkailuihin tutustuin ensimmäistä kertaa Mucho Mojon (toinen sarjassa) sivuilla heidän viedessä täysin sydämeni. Kyseinen romaani on vieläkin kaikkien aikojen suosikkikirjani ja mielestäni hyytävin rikoskirja mitä löytyy.
Viime aikoina olen joutunut nipistelemään itseäni muutamaan otteeseen, koska en olisi ikinä voinut kuvitellakaan, että olen näin massiivisessa albumisarjassa mukana.
Kauaa en asioita jää sulattelemaan, vaan olen jo täysillä painamassa Savage Seasonia eteenpäin. Teen ensimmäisen vedoksen käsikirjoituksesta ja sen jälkeen aloitamme hiomaan sitä Joen kanssa.
Tämä on suuri satsaus kustantajaltamme SST Publicationsilta, koska olemme tekemässä albumit joka Hap ja Leonard- seikkailusta, minun ollessa mukana exclusive- sopimuksella.
Kaikesta tekee vielä mielenkiintoisemmaksi seikka, että Walking Deadista tuttu AMC- kanava omistaa Sundance Channelin, joka on valmistelemassa Hap and Leonardista tv- sarjaa.
